Lately I've been drawn to Greek mythology. It fascinates me how these guys that existed thousands of years ago dreamed so much more than the average man today would. So I thought I should write about these guys! Icarus Is my favorite character. He and his father were prisoners, his father was a great craftsman so in an attempt to escape, he fashioned two pairs of wings made out of wax and feathers. He warned his son not to fly too close to the sun and the sea but Icarus was overwhelmed by the freedom that he got from flying and so he got too close to the sun and it melted his wings and he fell to his death. Now this might seem like such a tragic incident but its been a great source inspiration for me lately, its a reminder that no matter how free, rich or famous we get, we should never get carried away, we shouldn't let ourselves become prisoners to the giddiness that the height brings. Another thing that fascinates me about the story of Icarus is the fact that emphasis have only been laid on his flight rather than his fall, its the Flight of Icarus that has been recorded, the fall is just a tiny fragment of the myth, so is the flight really worth the fall??? I wonder!. Anyways sometimes we get caught up in the speed of the fast lives we live or hope to live, we want to soar and we want to reach heights that we've only dreamed about we want to be the best we can be, but is it possible to get to the top without falling? (Michael Jackson. Elvis Presley, Fela) Okay! Let the story of Icarus be a reminder to all of us, lets try not to fly too far on borrowed wings or too close to the sun and if we do fall,(God forbid) lets pray we hit the ground running!
